The /. translation

of the NYT article on defense funding that I mentioned earlier:
  • I'll put it in StarCraft terms: you're spending your minerals on upgrading your Zealots, and failing to invest in the pylons and tech structures that would allow you to build a whole frickin' fleet of Protoss Carriers
  • You can't cut Counter Strike research! What will I play now?
The discussion is interesting though (at +5 filtering). Some of the standard fallacies are brought up (and occasionally demolished):
  • All useful CS research was done in the 70s
  • We don't need no stinkin' guvmint: a teenage hacker can do better
  • Why should DARPA fund academic research
  • Why do CS researchers needs tons of money anyway ? All they do is think !
